Seahawks Edge Blazers in Opening Match of UNCW Invite

WILMINGTON, N.C. – The UAB men’s tennis team fell in a tightly contested 4-3 match against host UNC Wilmington at the UNC Wilmington Invite Friday at the UNCW Tennis Courts.

Doubles
Eric Komati and Chrisian Coetzee claimed an early 6-1 advantage in doubles play on court two. Tim Dollman and Stefan Gonzalez fell on court one to even the match 1-1, but Anru Fourie and Kenton Parton earned a UAB early 1-0 lead, as they secured the win and point on court three.
Singles
UNCW evened the match at 1-all with a win on court five against Parton, 7-5, 6-3. Coetzee picked up his second win of the day and gave the 2-1 advantage back to the Blazers win a 6-2, 6-4 win on court four.
Back and fourth play ensued as Gonzalez fell on court three to tie the match at 2-all. Komati picked up point two of the day with a three-set come from behind win on court one over the Seahawks’ top player, 1-6, 6-4, 6-3.
The Seahawks bounced back to win back-to-back matches on courts six and two to edge the Blazers, 4-3 – both coming in three-set victories.
