Blazers Leave for Spring Break on High Note

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Holding its final training session before a week off for spring break, the UAB Football team had its eighth practice on Friday morning at the Southside facility.
OBSERVATIONS:
- UAB was in full pads and the physicality was on display. Spring break didn’t seem to be on the minds of the players and the energy was very high from start to finish.
- The Blazers ended practice with a 3v3 drill which featured three offensive players lining up against three defensive players inside of a small grid with a running back trying to score a touchdown. With the entire team surrounding the cones, everyone took turns, including quarterbacks vs. defensive backs, specialists vs. linebackers, offensive line vs. defensive line etc. It was a way for the respective units to flex their muscles and rally around their groups with encouragement, gamesmanship and laughter.
- Through eight practices, the depth chart continues to change which is what Coach Clark intended in an effort to continue maximizing competition.
CLARK QUOTES:
“We did well today, I was proud of them. That 3v3 drill is a competitive and safe drill, so it was a fun and exciting way to end practice. The effort and energy is good. We just have to pick it up after the break. Once again, our expectations are extremely high. As far as organizational, I think we are good. But with old coach speak, we want them to get a lot better. One big key is – what do we do over spring break? We need to take care of our bodies and come back ready to go.”
LOOKING AHEAD:
The Blazers return to the field on March 21 for their ninth practice. Following break, UAB has six remaining practices before the Spring Game which is set for April 1 at Legion Field. Kickoff for the Spring Game is scheduled for 1 p.m. and will air on WABM MY68.
