A.J. Erdely Named Manning Award Star of the Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Quarterback A.J. Erdely was once again recognized for his record-setting performance in UAB's 52-21 win over Rice on Saturday as he was named a Manning Award Star of the Week, the Allstate Sugar Bowl announced on Monday.
It is the second award Erdely has won after his dominant performance against Rice as the quarterback was named College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) National Performer of the Week on Sunday.
Erdely played lights out against the Owls, finishing the game 20-of-21 for 197 yards and three touchdown passes. His pinpoint accuracy set the C-USA record for completion percentage with 95.2 percent passing, topping the old record of 94.7 (18-for-19) which has happened twice, the last coming in 2006.
Overall, Erdely now has 12 passing touchdowns on the year which ties him for tenth in program history with Sam Hunt for single season passing touchdowns.
The quarterback has been no stranger to the record books this season as he is continuing to solidify his spot with the program's elite in multiple categories.
His 10 rushing touchdowns are tied for the sixth most in school history for a single season and are the second most by a quarterback. He needs three more scores to tie the overall record which is held by Jordan Howard (13) and one more to tie Joe Webb for the most rushing scores by a quarterback (11).
On the year, Erdley has now accounted for 22 total touchdowns (12 passing, 10 rushing) for a total of 1,956 yards (1,692 passing, 264 rushing).
A total of eight quarterbacks, including Erdely, were named Stars of the Week along with Ahmad Bradshaw (Army), Caleb Evans (UL-Monroe), Will Grier (West Virginia), Baker Mayfield (Oklahoma), Nathan Rourke (Ohio), Nate Stanley (Iowa) and Jordan Ta'amu (Ole Miss).
Fans will have the opportunity to vote for Erdley on the Allstate Sugar Bowl Facebook page until Thursday at 11 a.m. CT when the top vote-getter will be named the Manning Award Quarterback of the Week. Votes can be cast here.
Erdely and the Blazers return to action on Nov. 11 as the Green and Gold travel to San Antonio, Texas to battle UTSA at 6 p.m. in a C-USA West Division show down.
