NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The UAB women’s track and field team saw a number of individual top times fall on the final day of the Vanderbilt Invitational on Saturday. Four Blazers set new top individual marks.
“We had a lot of seasonal bests and lots of improved performances this weekend. That's what we were going for and the ladies responded pretty well,” said head coach Kurt Thomas. “Hannah Coffin and Jenna Hinds dropped some very good mile PRs and Serena Martinez and Emily Drouin added some indoor PR’s to boot. Shelbi White continued to race well in the 60 after a good 200m last night. Keila Robertson jumped well in the triple. She's setting herself up for some big jumps soon. Lauren Capone raced well and is just getting stronger. We all have things we need to keep getting better at, but we saw some good things starting to come together."
Coffin, Drouin, Hinds, and Martinez all posted their new personal-bests in the One Mile Run. Coffin finished in 13th with a time of 4:59.68, breaking the five-minute mark for the first time, while Drouin (5:09.21) finished 28th. Martinez (5:10.64) placed 32nd with Hinds (5:11.12) directly behind her in 33rd.
White took fifth place in the 60 Meter Dash finals with a time of 7.60 seconds. Robertson cleared 11.62 meters (38’1½”) in the Triple Jump and was the second-highest placing freshman in the event.
Capone pieced together a strong day by setting a new personal-record in the 400 Meter Dash (59.15).
UAB will have this upcoming weekend off before traveling to the Notre Dame Meyo Invitational the weekend of February 2-3.
