NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The UAB women’s track and field team completed the first day of the Vanderbilt Invitational on Friday night. The Blazers got a number of great starts to the event including an indoor personal-best from Shelbi White.
“We had just a handful of ladies compete tonight, but we saw some good improvements,” said head coach Kurt Thomas. “Jennifer Sharpe and Keila Robertson are just off hitting some big jumps, but improved from last week. Shelbi ran well against some good competition so hopefully she is set up for some big races in the next few weeks. There are some big teams here so we have to step up all the way around in every event. These ladies started out well and we need to keep it up tomorrow to have a great weekend."
White ran in the 200 Meter Run and placed eighth with a time of 24.81 seconds. Her previous fastest time was 25.02 seconds.
The freshman combination of Robertson and Sharpe placed 22nd and 23rd, respectively, in the Long Jump. Robertson reached 5.33 meters while Sharpe’s best jump was 5.24 meters. The two were also sixth and seventh among freshmen.
The Blazers hit the track again tomorrow starting at 9:00 a.m. as they will be competing all day across a multitude of events on the second day of the invitational. White will compete again tomorrow and is seeded fifth in the 60 Meter Run.
