2017 BEACH VOLLEYBALL SCHEDULE
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Two home tournaments and 28 regular season contests highlight the 2017 schedule for the UAB Beach Volleyball team.
“We are thrilled about our 2017 competition schedule,” said interim head coach Ashley Hardee. “We have two home events which will include our first-ever night duals. This schedule and our conference has some of the best teams in the country and we are excited to compete at the highest level.”
The Blazers open the season at the friendly confines of the UAB Beach Volleyball Courts when they host the Blazer Beach Duals. The tournament, which is schedule for March 3-5, includes Austin Peay, Jacksonville State, Louisiana Monroe, Mercer, New Orleans and Tulane.
UAB then hits the road the following week and heads to CCSA foe South Carolina to participate in a tournament which features the host Gamecocks, Jacksonville U. and Mercer.
The weekend of March 18-19 will see the Blazers visit Baton Rouge for the LSU Duals. UAB opens the tournament with North Florida and Florida Gulf Coast, and finishes competition with three straight conference matches against CCSA members FIU, Tulane and a rematch with South Carolina.
UAB will play a double-header at Mercer on March 25 in Macon, Ga. In the Blazers’ five-year beach volleyball history, Mercer is their most common opponent and UAB holds an 8-6 advantage in the series. The following day, March 26, will be the UAB Alumni Match in Birmingham.
Following that weekend, UAB ventures to Georgia State and Austin Peay in consecutive weekends before returning home to host its second tournament which features two matches each with UT Martin and Lincoln Memorial under the lights.
The second annual CCSA Tournament is scheduled for April 21-23 in Emerson, Ga. Along with UAB, FAU, FIU, FSU, Georgia State, LSU, South Carolina and Tulane, the conference welcomes two new teams to the league this season in College of Charleston and UNC Wilmington.
UAB will once again be the host for the NCAA National Championship Tournament in Gulf Shores, Ala. The Blazers hosted the first ever NCAA Tournament last year in which the University of Southern California was crowned champion.
“Everyone in our program has committed to growing and getting back to the tradition rich years where we had pairs qualifying for Nationals. We will be prepared to compete at a level that will make our followers and supporters proud of the Blazers.”
