Men's Tennis Dominates at Dale Short Shootout

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The UAB men’s tennis team dominated play this weekend at the Dale Short Shootout presented by Jason’s Deli, hosted by Middle Tennessee. The Blazers compiled a 16-3 record in singles play while boasting a 9-1 mark in doubles competition against Austin Peay, Middle Tennessee and Chattanooga.
“We had a very successful weekend,” head coach Derek Tarr said. “The guys played with a lot of energy and intensity. This was a great start to the fall season.”
In singles action, four Blazers – Christian Coetzee, Kenton Parton, Giovani Pasini – went a perfect 3-0, while Marlon Goering also went undefeated in his one match. Fernando Vargas, Eric Komati and Arnu Fourie all went 2-1 in singles play.
In doubles, the Blazers’net tandems of Vargas/Pasini, Fourie/Parton and Komati/Coetzee impressed with a perfect 8-0 mark. The Green and Gold dropped just one match in doubles action all weekend.
The event was played in a scramble format without team scores.
