BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB football team held its second intra-squad scrimmage of fall camp on Saturday afternoon at Legion Field.
Unlike the first scrimmage, it was the offense this time that had the more impressive day. Led by the combination of quarterback A.J. Erdely and wide receiver Collin Lisa, the Blazer offense moved the ball effectively with their up-tempo pace.
Erdely and Trey Whitmore each had a rushing touchdown on the first two possessions of the scrimmage. Both were 10-yard rushes.
“They played very fast and ran hard,” head coach Bill Clark said. “The defense had a few plays – it is never just one sided, but the offense had the better day today. If they are the type of guys you want them to be, someone who gets challenged, then they respond. The defense has to understand that the offense was playing with urgency today."
Defensively, Noah Jones had an impressive showing for the Blazers on the defensive line.
“Noah had a lot of energy today and rushed the passer well,” Clark said. “That depth chart may change next week.”
The Blazers ended the day with situational plays, and on the final snap of the scrimmage, wide receiver Andre Wilson made an incredible Hail Mary catch in triple coverage and was greeted by the entire offense in the end zone to celebrate.
UAB is just nine days away from its Green and Gold Game which will be held on August 29 at BBVA Compass Field.
