UAB Football Notebook: Week One in the Books

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Eyeing its return to the playing field in 2017, the UAB football team has completed its first week of 2016 fall camp.
- The Blazers opened camp on Monday, August 8, with more than 100 players taking the field. Roughly half the team was going through its first practice at UAB.
- As the week progressed, so did the efficiency and quality of practice. The Blazers spent their first two days at the UAB Football Facility before moving to Legion Field for the remainder of the week. The weather cooperated with the Blazers, and despite being wet for the majority of the week, the temperature was very reasonable.
- Among the many storylines, one in particular has been the emergence of wide receiver Brewer Hicklen. A standout on the UAB baseball team, Hicklen has taken advantage of the opportunity to be on the football team and has been impressive catching passes through the first week of practice. - UAB is just 15 days away from its Green and Gold Game, which will be played on August 29, at the BBVA Compass Soccer Field on campus. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Click here for more information.
