Sara Rishell Named to CCSA All-Academic Team

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – UAB beach volleyball’s graduate student Sara Rishell earned a spot on the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association’s All-Academic Team as announced by the league office on Wednesday.
Rishell is one of 10 student-athletes recognized for their excellence on the court and in the classroom on the conference’s inaugural All-Academic Team. An honoree must maintain at 3.30 cumulative grade point average or higher and participated in at least half of their team’s game.
The graduate student holds a 4.0 GPA and is pursuing her master’s degree in education.
Rishell has competed primarily at the No. 1 position this season with partner and fellow graduate student Chelsi Carter. The duo has amassed a 15-11 record this season as Rishell has compiled a 15-13 individual record.
The Smithsburg, Maryland, native and Carter strung together 11 consecutive wins at the No.1 court, including finishing the Blazer Beach Duals undefeated to lead UAB to a perfect 5-0 home record.
The Blazers and Rishell turn their attention to the inaugural CCSA Conference Tournament as No. 8 UAB opens pool play Friday against No. 5 South Carolina at 7 a.m. CT.
