UAB Beach Volleyball Splits Saturday Doubleheader

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The UAB beach volleyball team split Saturday’s doubleheader at the Gamecock Invitational hosted by South Carolina in Columbia.
UAB (6-7, 0-3) fell to the host Gamecocks (11-4, 4-1) in five straight sets in the first of the Blazers’ four contests over the weekend.
Michaela Reesor and Avery Hoven led the Blazers against the Gamecocks pushing their No. 2 pair to three sets, 17-21, 21-19, 15-9.
The Blazers responded in game two of Saturday’s doubleheader as UAB cruised to a 4-1 victory over Carson-Newman (5-6).
Sara Rishell and Chelsi Carter picked up a 21-14, 21-17 victory over Ally King and Katie Will at the No. 1 position to give UAB a 1-0 advantage. Molly Locke and Maddie Borch evened the match at 1-1 as the pair defeated UAB’s No. 2 duo Amber Treace and Zahria Richard, 21-10, 21-13.
Michaela Reesor and Avery Hoven stormed back with a 21-9, 21-7 victory over Sara Fairley and Taylor Lowe at the No. 3 position. Tressa Buckland and Avei Logoleo pushed the UAB lead to 3-1 by defeating Natalie Harris and Kristina Hill, 21-11, 21-14, at the No. 4 position.
Gabbi Moreno and Emily Martinez capped the 4-1 victory with a 21-18, 17-21, 15-6 victory over Eileen Anderson and Megan Morris at the No. 5 position.
UAB closes the Gamecock Invitational with a doubleheader Sunday as the Blazers tangle with TCU and Jacksonville.
