UAB Snaps Skid, Takes Down Lipscomb on the Road

NASHVILLE – The UAB men’s tennis team took down Lipscomb on the road at the Richland Country Club 4-1 on Saturday night.
The Blazers (4-3) jumped out to an early lead thanks to doubles play. Christian Coetzee and Luiz Felipe Pinto quickly gave UAB an edge as it dominated court one, 6-2, as the duo improved to 4-2 on the season. Eric Komati and Stepan Vancurik gave the Blazers their first lead of the contest with a 6-3 victory on court three.
The Bison knotted the game at 1-all as it earned a 6-2, 6-2 win on court one over Mitchell Martell.
On court four, Oliver Poysti improved to 4-2 in 2016 due to a 6-4, 6-3 win, which gave the Blazers its final lead of the night, 2-1.
Play by Komati and Coetzee on courts two and three, respectively, earned UAB the victory as they won in tiebreak fashion, 7-5, 6-4, and 7-6, 7-6 (5). Komati remained perfect with an unblemished 5-0 record this season. This marked the first appearances for Komati and Coetzee on their respected courts.
Next up, UAB takes a week off before it heads to Houston, Texas, as the team spends back-to-back days at the Conference USA shootout, next Saturday and Sunday.
