UAB Drops 4-2 Decision to Southern Miss

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – After three straight victories, the UAB men’s tennis team (3-2) dropped a hard fought 4-2 decision to Southern Miss (5-2) on Friday afternoon at the Lakeshore Tennis Center.
In doubles, UAB’s Luiz Felipe Pinto and Christian Coetzee cruised to a 604 victory on court one for the first win of the day.
The swift win was followed by back-to-back Golden Eagle wins as Mitchell Martell/Kenton Parton fell on court two, and Eric Komati and Stepan Vancurik fell on court three. Both duos pushed Southern Miss to the limit say they fell 7-5, 7-6 (2), respectively.
In singles action, Komati remained perfect in dual-match play as he defeated Huang, 6-2,6-4, to tie the match up at one-all. The win kept Komati perfect, as he has a pair of wins on courts three and four in 2016.
The Golden Eagles responded with a win on court two to regain a 2-1 lead as Coetzee fell to Tseng, 6-4, 6-2.
Pinto knotted the game at two with a 6-4, 6-3 win on court five as he took down USM’s Merker. With the win, Pinto moved to 4-1 and is a perfect 3-0 on court five this season
The Golden Eagles’ two-straight wins on courts one and four put the match away as they outlasted UAB, 4-2.
The Blazers continue their rough slate as they head to Starkville, Miss., to take on SEC foe No. 29 Mississippi State (5-2).
The Blazers are slated to face No. 41 Mate Cuture in singles play on Saturday. The match is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. Fans can follow the live stats link HERE.
