Men's Tennis Welcomes Southern Miss

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB men’s tennis team opens conference action Friday as it welcomes league foe Southern Miss to the Lakeshore Tennis Complex.
The Blazers (3-1) are looking to extend their win streak to four after taking down No. 72 UNC Wilmington, North Alabama and Jacksonville State.
Last time out, UAB used its dominant singles performance as it swept the Gamecocks en route to a 6-1 victory.
In singles action, Eric Komati and Kenton Parton both post unblemished records at 3-0. Komati has represented the Blazers on courts three and four, while Parton has seen action on courts five and six.
The Golden Eagles (4-2) are coming off a upset over No. 71 South Alabama last Saturday. USM’s doubles tandem of Merker/Surat are a perfect 4-0 this season, with a pair of wins on courts two and three. In singles play, Rishi is 2-0 on court six, while Reyes boasts a 4-1 overall record.
Last time the Blazers and Golden Eagles went head-to-head, UAB handled Southern Miss, 5-2, in Birmingham in 2014. Luiz Felipe Pinto and Mitchell Martell competed in the match. Martell and Pinto both won in doubles play with wins on courts two and three, respectively. Pinto also picked up a victory on court six.
