Wilson Signs Three to National Letters of Intent

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - UAB men's golf head coach Mike Wilson has announced National Letters of Intent of three recruits who all hail from the state of Alabama for the 2017-18 season.
"I am really excited about the class we have signed for the upcoming school year," said Wilson. "I want to thank Coach [Thomas] Sutton for his hard work over the summer in helping identify the type of players we need at UAB to have successful teams."
The new signees are John Racciatti, Jr., John Snoddy, and Sam Jeffcoat.
Fairhope native John Racciatti, Jr., from Mcgill-Toolen Catholic High School, is a foreseeable asset to the team. Under Coach Dede Thompson, Racciatti, Jr. received 1st Team All-County and All-Area honors, All-Region Honorable Mention, and South Alabama High School Golfer of the Month (April 2015).
"John brings a lot of talent to the golf course," Wilson said. "He won the Alabama State Junior Championship this past summer and his overall game will transition well into college golf."
The senior won the 71st annual Alabama Boys State Junior Championship with a 70-70-65 (205) to take the 16-18 age division title, and placed 1st in the Magnolia Grove Junior Classic and 2nd in the Vestavia Junior Classic (2014). His 18-hole average is 72 and his tournament scoring average is a 72.7. He currently ranks 6th in the state of Alabama Class of 2017.
John Snoddy is remaining loyal to his hometown of Birmingham. A senior at John Carroll High School, he earned best medalist in the 6A competition with a total of 145 in the 68th State Golf Championships. He ranks 7th in the state of Alabama Class of 2017.
"John has a great attitude and his skill set is some of the best I have seen in junior golf," Wilson said. "He is from Birmingham and loves what UAB golf has to offer. I am extremely impressed with his attitude and abilities on the golf course."
Like Snoddy, Sam Jeffcoat will also remain in Birmingham to play his collegiate golf. Jeffcoat attends Mountain Brook High School, and he placed 2nd in the Doublegate Junior Classic (2016). His current scoring average is a 77.0.
"We are really excited about Sam," said Assistant Coach Thomas Sutton. "We think he has a lot of upside. He is a multi-sport athlete that we believe will really blossom within the UAB program."
The Blazers return to action in February when they being their spring season at the University of Florida.
