Blazer Beach Volleyball Announces 2016 Schedule

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB beach volleyball team begins its inaugural season as a member of the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association this March as the Blazers release their 2016 schedule.
Beginning its fifth season as a program, the Blazers will compete in CCSA action this season and strive to compete in the first NCAA Beach Volleyball Championships later this spring.
We are so excited about this inaugural 2016 season as a member of the CCSA conference and a chance to compete for an NCAA title,” said head coach Bailey Coleman. “This season we are hosting the NCAA National Beach Championship in Gulf Shores, Ala., which motivates us even more this year to fight as a program to represent UAB at the championships.”
UAB opens the upcoming season with two dual matches before jumping into tournament
The Blazers compete in their first of six tournaments at the South Carolina Duals on March 12-13. UAB is slated to face Mercer and CCSA opponents South Carolina, Florida Atlantic and Tulane.
The College of Charleston Duals begins a string of four consecutive tournament matches on March 19-20. UAB competes against Pepperdine, UNCW, College of Charleston and Lincoln Memorial.
UAB returns to South Carolina for a second duals tournament hosted by the Gamecocks. The South Carolina Duals II is set for March 26-27 as the Blazers battle the Gamecocks,
The Blazer Beach Duals tournament is set for April 1-3 at the UAB Sand Courts and is the only home action for UAB. The Blazers welcome New Orleans, Lincoln Memorial, Louisiana Monroe, Spring Hill and Jacksonville State to Birmingham.
UAB’s match versus ULM is set as Fight Like Hal Dual Day in honor of the beach volleyball team’s late head coach Hal Messersmith, who lost his battle to cancer in July 2013.
Two tournaments in Florida are the last stops of the regular season for the Blazers, beginning with the Fiesta on Siesta Duals in Siesta Keys, Fla. UAB faces off against Florida International Grand Canyon, Florida Gulf
The Florida State Duals is the final stanza of the regular season as UAB matches up against UNF, the host Seminoles, Tulane and Georgia State on April 15-16.
The CCSA Conference Tournament is schedule for April 22-24 in Emerson, Ga. The inaugural NCAA Championships, hosted by the Blazers, is set for May 5-8 in Gulf Shores.
