TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The UAB men’s tennis team opened the spring season dropping a close 4-3 match as the Blazers fell to Alabama Monday at the Roberta Alison Baumgardner Tennis Facility.
Mitchell Martell fell to No. 106 Korey Lovett on court No. 1 (6-3, 6-1) before Eric Komati defeated Matthew Rossow on court No. 4 (6-4, 6-4).
No. 123 Becker O’Shaughnessey gave Alabama (2-1) an advantage after defeating Stepan Vancurik, 6-3, 6-3, on court No. 2. UAB (0-1) had a strong finish in singles competition as Kenton Parton and Oliver Poysti both picked up singles victories.
In doubles competition, the Blazers fell in two matches against the Tide allowing Alabama to take the 4-3 victory.
The Blazers will return to the court Friday, Jan. 29 for UAB’s home opener against UNC-Wilmington at 1 p.m. CT.
