BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- Tyler Jones, who was a top prep prospect two years ago at Albertville (Ala.) High School, has signed a financial aid agreement to attend UAB.
Jones, a 6-5, 295-pound offensive lineman, will join the Blazers’ program after transferring from the University of Memphis where he attended in 2014-15. Jones was redshirted as a member of the Tigers’ football team for the 2014 season.
“It’s obviously a big deal to get the first one (signee),” UAB head football coach Bill Clark said. “The thing we loved about Tyler when we recruited him before was his athleticism. He does a lot of things well. When we first recruited him, he was playing H-Back. He’s played tight end, D-line and O-line. He comes from a very good high school program with Coach (Joel) Poole.”
As a senior at Albertville, Jones earned honorable mention all-state honors by the Alabama Sports Writers Association. He also was selected all-county and all-region. Jones registered 60 pancake blocks on offense and 56 tackles on the defensive line. He was a second-team All-Tennessee Valley choice on the offensive line. Jones was a team captain for Albertville his senior year.
During his junior season, Jones notched 68 tackles, including 21 of those for loss. He also recorded nine sacks in 2012 en route to earning all-county and all-region recognition.
