UAB Men's Golf Selected To Bremerton Regional

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Making a school record fourth-straight postseason appearance, the UAB men's golf team was selected for the 2015 NCAA Regionals, as announced on Monday. The Blazers will head to Bremerton, Wash., May 14-16.
"This is a really good reward for the guys," head coach Alan Murray said. "They had a good year and deserve to play in the regionals. We like going out west. We got send to Stanford two years ago for regionals and played well there."
UAB will be the No. 5 seed among the 14-team field to play at the Gold Mountain Golf Club host by the University of Washington. This is the 11th appearance for the Blazers in the NCAA Regionals as a team.
"The golf course out there is really nice, very scenic," head coach Alan Murray said. "It is one of those if you hit good shots, you will be in good position, but if you hit a bad shot, you will have your work cut out for you. I think it is a fair golf course so if you get sent anywhere for regionals that is one thing you want is a fair test."
The Bremerton Regional will feature five teams that played in the 2014 NCAA Championships, including the Blazers. South Carolina was awarded the No. 1 seed, regional host Washington is the No. 2 seed, Southern California is the No. 3 seed and Baylor was selected as the No. 4 seed.
"We will be among a good field," Murray added. "Like every other team, you have to play well to get through to the NCAA Championship. We will have our work cut out for us."
In total, 81 teams were selected for NCAA regional competition. The top five teams from each of the six regional sites will participate in the 2015 NCAA Championship at The Concession Golf Club in Bradenton, Fla.
UAB made its fifth appearance in the national championship last season, earning its second-best finish in 21st. The Blazers are looking to make their first back-to-back appearance in the championship since they did so in 2000-01 and 2001-02.
