Renay Ransaw Receives C-USA Spirit of Service Award

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- UAB track and field's Renay Ransaw is one of 14 recipients of the 2014-15 C-USA Winter Spirit of Service Award, league commissioner Britton Banowsky announced on Wednesday.
The C-USA Spirit of Service Award is presented three times throughout the year, recognizing league student-athletes who commit significant time to community service, while maintaining good academic standing and excellence in his or her sport.
Ransaw is involved with community service via Student-Athlete Development at UAB, while also participating in community service through Dr. Seuss Read Across America, the Lakeshore Foundation, the Martin Luther King Day of Service as well as the Ronald McDonald House Cleaning event.
The senior has also excelled in the classroom over her collegiate career, earning the UAB Athletic Director's Honor Roll six times.
Ransaw has recorded an outdoor season-best long jump of 5.72 meters (18-09 1/4 feet) to rank 12th in Conference USA and 61st on the NCAA Division I East Outdoor Qualifying List. The Montgomery, Ala. native has a pair of first-place finishes in the long jump this season, as she won the event at the Raleigh Relays and tied for first at the Battle of I-65 at Samford.
