Chandler Paces Women's Golf at C-USA Championships

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Sophomore Rebecca Chandler fired a career best 2-under 70, one of the lowest rounds in UAB women's golf history, to lead the Blazers to a team score 303 in the first round of the Conference USA Women's Golf Championships.
"We are thrilled for Rebecca and Sydney (Snodgrass)," head coach Kim Wilcox said following the opening round. "We are only nine shots off third place and we are excited and ready for tomorrow."
Chandler carded three birdies on the day at holes one, five and 15 with just one bogey at the Verandah Club on the 17th. She and four other golfers fired a 70 in day one of the 54-hole event. Her round of 70 is tied for the fourth-lowest round in program history.
Snodgrass turned in a scorecard just one stroke behind Chandler at 1-under, 71. She also birdied the 15th, dropped a bogey on 16 and birdied the second to finish at 1-under on the day in a three-way tie for sixth.
Juliana Sebastian carded a first round 80 (+8). Holly Robinson turned in a 10-over, 82, while Margaret Yeh shot a 12-over, 84, in the opening round of her final conference championship.
As a team the Blazers sit 10th of 11 teams at 15-over, 303, just five strokes off the eighth place team, and nine off the third place team. Middle Tennessee leads the 11-team field after recording a 1-under, 287, and the Blue Raiders' Samantha Gotcher paced the field of individuals after firing a 4-under, 68.
The Blazers will get their second round started Tuesday morning at 8 a.m. ET on the back nine grouped with Florida Atlantic. UAB's field of five will tee-off in reverse order of finish, with Yeh set for an 8 a.m. tee time, and Chandler going off last at 8:40 a.m.
