AUBURN, Ala. -- The UAB track and field team wrapped up the War Eagle Invitational with four new personal bests on Saturday at Hutsell-Rosen Track.
Each of Autumnn Burnett, Jessica Shelley and Renay Ransaw posted personal bests in the 100-meter hurdles, while Fanta Diabate recorded a personal best in the 400-meter dash.
"The team put together another very good meet today," UAB head coach Kurt Thomas said. "The hurdlers are running great. Autumnn's finals race was big time. Autumnn and Jessica are moving up the NCAA East Qualifying List and are in a great spot getting close to C-USA's. Fanta set a nice PR in the 400, too."
Autumnn Burnett clocked a personal-best time of 13.59 in the 100-meter hurdles finals to finish third. Burnett's time also accounts for the fastest 100-meter hurdles time by a Blazer this season, and ranks 32nd on the NCAA East Qualifying List.
Jessica Shelley placed right behind her in fourth, finishing the race in 13.72 to record her own personal best and improve upon her time of 13.76 at the Battle of I-65 at Samford University. Additionally, Shelley's new personal best places her 44th on the NCAA East Qualifying List.
Renay Ransaw rounded out Blazer performances in the 100-meter hurdles, as she set a personal best time of 14.19 in preliminaries, narrowly missing qualification for the finals.
Fanta Diabate was the fourth Blazer to record a new personal best on Saturday, as she clocked a time of 57.37 in the 400-meter dash to finish eighth. Jenna Wesley finished ninth in the event, clocking a time of 57.79.
Kandiss Briggs recorded a new seasonal-best in the 100-meter dash, as she finished in sixth with a time of 11.93. Briggs' time is also the best by a Blazer this outdoor season, edging Leila Elliot's time of 11.97 at the Tennessee Relays.
Ali Meister capped off the Blazers' top performers with seasonal bests in each field event she competed in on Saturday. Meister tied her seasonal best in the high jump with a mark of 1.66m (5-05), while her mark of 5.47m (17-11 1/2) in the long jump was good for seventh on Saturday and was her best jump of the season.
"Ali is jumping well right now and that will really help her in the heptathlon at the conference meet," Thomas said. "Things are starting to click a little more, and as long as we stay healthy and hungry, we'll be in a good position going into the conference meet in a few weeks,"
The UAB track and field team returns to action on Saturday, May 2, with a trip to Starkville, Miss. for the Mississippi State Invite.
