Sand Volleyball Concludes First Day At FSU Tournament

Pool Play Results 
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- The UAB sand volleyball team completed the first day of action at the Florida State Pairs Tournament as the four teams participated in pool play on Saturday.
There were six different pools with a pair from each team in the different pools. In Pool A, UAB had its pair of seniors Rachel Fairbanks and Sara Rishell. The duo finished 1-2 in their three matches. Fairbanks and Rishell picked up a win in the final match of the day over Eckerd's Carpenter and Whiting, 21-18-21-13.
Seniors Leslie Ekpe and Ally Slaughter were in Pool B. The Blazer pair also finished 1-2 in three matches with a win over Eckerd's Arnette and McAlvany, 21-15, 21-17. Seniors Kiriana Hirini and Bethanie Thomas were slated into Pool C and finished 1-2. The pair topped Eckerd's Reis and Kotnik, 21-9, 21-14.
In Pool D was the duo of freshmen Anna-Mae Messisco and Gabbi Moreno. They fell in all three matches of the day after opening with a close three-set loss to FSU's Harkness and Montgomery, 21-10, 19-21, 15-8.
Sophomore Amber Treace and freshman Haley Jared competed in Pool E and finished 1-2. Treace and Jared defeated Eckerd's Cary and Buresh, 18-21, 21-18, 18-16.
The final pairing of senior Becca Howard and freshman Avei Logoleo competed in Pool F. They picked up a win over Eckerd's Trimble and Redney, 21-16, 21-18.
The teams will close out the tournament on Sunday with the bracket play.
