Blazers Fall To ODU At Conference USA Championship

NORFOLK, Va. ---- The UAB men's tennis team fell 4-0 to No. 58-ranked Old Dominion in its opening round match Friday at the 2015 Conference USA Championship.
The seventh-seeded Blazers (6-12) faced a difficult challenge taking on the Monarchs (16-2) on ODU's homecourts.
Old Dominion, seeded second in the tournament, captured the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and 2 positions and then clinched the victory to advance to Saturday's semifinals by taking straight set victories at the No. 1, 3 and 6 spots in singles.
Christian Coetzee, the Blazers' No. 4 player in the lineup, won his first set 6-4 over ODU's Javier Jover Maestre but trailed by a 5-3 margin in the second set. In doubles, Coetzee and Donovan McSeveney were leading their match at No. 2, 6-5, before play was halted with the Monarchs winning at the No. 1 and 3 positions.
