Student-Athlete Of The Week: Bethanie Thomas

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Senior Bethanie Thomas of the UAB sand volleyball team was named the UAB Student-Athlete of the Week, as announced on Tuesday. The Student-Athlete of the Week recognizes student-athletes who excel on and off their respective fields of competition.
The Huntsville, Ala. native has won 11 matches for the Blazers this season at the No. 1 position with Kiriana Hirini. The duo competed in the championship match at the Georgia State Pairs Tournament, finishing 2-1.
Thomas had a 4.0 GPA in the fall and is a civil engineering major. She is being presented with the 2014-15 Gene Bartow Athletic Endowed Scholarship Award. She is a two-time recipient of the Conference USA Academic Medal and has been named to the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll twice.
Thomas and the sand volleyball team return to the courts this weekend at the Florida State Pairs Tournament in Tallahassee, Fla.
