UAB Hosts Blazer Beach Duals Tournament

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB sand volleyball team is set to host the Blazer Beach Duals Tournament this weekend at the UAB Sand Courts. The Blazers will host five matches on Saturday and Sunday.
UAB (2-6) will welcome four other teams to its only home tournament this season. Along with the Blazers will be Louisiana-Monroe (6-1), LSU (6-7), New Orleans (0-12) and Spring Hill (2-6).
The schedule will include five dual matches both days as each team will play two matches each day. UAB is slated to face LSU at 8 a.m. and New Orleans at 2 p.m. on Saturday. The Blazers will take on Louisiana-Monroe at 10 a.m. and Spring Hill at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
Most recently, UAB finished 1-3 in the South Carolina Tournament this past weekend. The Blazers opened with a 5-0 win over Carson-Newman before falling to Florida State, 5-0, Tulane, 4-1, and South Carolina, 4-1.
The pairs of Kiriana Hirini, Bethanie Thomas and Rachel Fairbanks, Sara Rishell both picked up two wins in the event. Hirini and Thomas have combined for four wins, which ties Becca Howard and Avei Logoleo for the most this season.
