BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - In its third of five spring tournaments, the UAB men's golf team will travel to Statesboro, Ga. For the 2015 Chris Schenkel Invitational. The tournament will span three days at the par-72, 6947-yard Forest Heights Country Club.
UAB will be among 15 teams competing in the tournament that will run Friday through Sunday. Of the 15 teams, three of them are ranked in the top-25 Golfweek/Sagarin Team Rankings with No. 4 Auburn, No. 5 Vanderbilt and No. 16 Wake Forest. The field also includes UCF, College of Charleston, Florida, Georgia Southern, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisville, Ole Miss, NC State, UNF and South Alabama.
The teams will play 54 holes, with one round each day. The top four scores from each team will count towards the total. Friday's first round tee times will begin at 9 a.m. ET.
Last season UAB finished in second at the Chris Schenkel Invitational behind tournament-host Georgia Southern. It was the best finish for the Blazers in the tournament. Junior Martin Rohwer earned runner-up individually in 2014.
Along with Rohwer, head coach Alan Murray will send out the lineup of junior Will Cannon, freshman Taylor Eyster, freshman Lee Hodges and senior Paul Dunne. All five competed in the John Hayt Invitational, helping UAB to a sixth place finish. Rohwer picked up his third top 10 finish after tying for 10th place.
