Quick Leads UAB On Second Day Of Wildcat Invitational

Day Two Results
DELAND, Fla. - Freshman Amy Quick led the UAB bowling team with a third-place finish individually on Saturday as the Blazers are in third heading into the final day at the Wildcat Invitational in Deland, Fla.
UAB (47-31) picked up three wins in five traditional matches on the second day of competition. The Blazers had a total pinfall of 4,419 to now sit in third with an 8,684 overall.
The day started strong as UAB took the first match, 923-779, over Southern. Quick led the team with a 235 in that game. The momentum carried into the second match as the Blazers topped Bethune-Cookman, 915-863. Senior Leah Walker and freshman Jessica Mellott each bowled over 200 in that game.
It was a close third match, but UAB was edged by Alabama State, 893-856, to drop to 2-1 on the day. The Blazers rebounded with a win over Florida A&M, 910-892, in the fourth match before dropping the final match to Tulane, 875-815.
Quick picked up the first top-10 finish of her career after taking third with a 965 total pinfall to average a 193 in the five matches. She finished with two games over 200. Fellow freshman Jessica Mellott recorded her second-straight 11th-place finish. Mellott averaged a 180 with a total pinfall of 900 on the day.
Sophomore Madeleine McDuff was just behind Mellott in 13th. McDuff totaled an 847 to average 169.4 on the day. Senior Jennafer Mellott was 19th with a 180.75 average and fellow senior Leah Walker was 21st, averaging 175.25 on the day.
UAB will begin the final day against No. 20 Tulane in the best 4-of-7 bracket style play. The final round will be the Best of Seven Baker matches on Sunday. The Blazers are paired with Vanderbilt in the Championship Bracket. The action will begin at 8:55 a.m. CT.
