BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Rachel Evans will join the UAB sand volleyball team in the fall of 2015, head coach Bailey Coleman announced Tuesday.
“We are excited to have a Floridian with a ton of sand experience join our blazer family,” Coleman said. “She has a lot of heart, determination and work ethic, which will be extremely beneficial to our program.”
Evans hails from St. Petersburg, Fla. where she attends Northside Christian High School. A top finisher in multiple Sunshine State Outdoor Volleyball Association events, she recently finished in first place in the Under-18 Silver Division of Nationals Global Challenge at Port St. Lucie.
She also finished in first place at the under-18 qualifier for Global Challenge in Cocoa Beach, Fla. in 2014. Evans has accumulated five first-place finishes and four runner-up finishes during the last three years.
Evans has also studied under some big names in sand volleyball, including National Volleyball League professional Pri Piantadosi-Lima, USAV HP International Beach Coach David Carstenson and 2016 Olympic contender Rachel Ferreira.
