No. 16 Bowling Takes 14th At Stormin' Jack Classic

Final Results 
HOUSTON, Texas - The No. 16 UAB bowling team finished 14th at the Stephen F. Austin Stormin' Jack Classic after a win in three matches on the final day.
UAB (54-41) had a pinfall of 3,577 in three matches on Sunday to finish with a total pinfall 14,757 over the three day tournament. The Blazers were 5-10 on the weekend, which included three wins in traditional matches.
The final day was the championship bracket as UAB was paired with Louisiana Tech in the first round. It was a tight match that came down to the final game to determine who would advance up in the bracket. The teams were tied 1-1, but The Lady Techsters won the next two to take a 3-1 advantage.
The Blazers battled back to win two-straight games and force a tiebreaking seventh game, but Louisiana Tech edged UAB 216-190 to take the match, 4-3. The Blazers cruised to a 4-1 win over Texas Southern in the next match to play for Monmouth in the final.
It was another seven-game match as UAB had to battle back once again, down 3-1 as the Blazers posted a 257 to win the fifth game and a 182 in the sixth game to send it to the seventh game. Once again it was a tight game, but Monmouth took the win 173-165.
UAB finished 3-3 in the six traditional matches with a 5,659 pinfall and was 1-5 in the baker matches on Friday with a 5,521 pinfall. The Blazers picked up a win over Prairie View in the baker format and topped Tulane, Louisiana Tech and Prairie View in the traditional matches.
Individually, freshman Jessica Mellott cracked the top-10 for the first time in her career. She bowled over 200 in five of the six games, including a high of 243, to finish with a total pinfall of 1,278. Senior Leah Walker was the next highest finisher placing 38th. Walker recorded a 1,163 total pinfall to average 193.83 on the day.
UAB will have a break before it concludes the regular season at the Music City Classic that runs March 6 through March 8 in Smyrna, Tenn.
