Komati, Doubles Highlight UAB Play At CCB Invitational

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- Eric Komati advanced in singles play and UAB won three doubles matches to highlight the Blazer tennis team’s day at the CCB Collegiate Invitational, hosted by the Country Club of Birmingham and the University of Alabama.
Komati, a transfer from Fresno State, ousted Matt Rossouw of Alabama in singles action, 6-4, 6-3 in the opening round match of his draw. Gabor Czonka of LSU got past UAB’s Mitchell Martell, 6-4, 6-2, in the same draw.
Julian Zlobinsky of Texas defeated the Blazers’ Oliver Poysti, 4-6, 6-1, 7-5. Sam Edwards rallied over UAB’s Stepan Vancurik, 1-6, 6-4, 6-1.
LSU’s Cameron Andry edged past Henry Paiste of UAB by a 7-5, 6-7 (6), 6-2 score while Guilermo Artiz of Middle Tennessee beat the Blazers’ Trey McCombs, 6-2, 6-0.
In doubles play, the UAB team of Komati and Martell cruised past the Alabama duo of Richey and Roussow, 8-1, before falling to the LSU pair of Czonka and Trinh, 8-5.
Poysti and Vancurik were 8-3 winners over Troy’s Bird and duSart before losing to Huang and Tseng of Southern Miss, 8-4.
In the final draw, the Blazers’ Paiste and McCombs downed Louisville’s Quang and Salazar, 8-2, but fell in their next match to the Tulane tandem of Van Cott and Wagner, 8-3.
