BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - UAB cross country senior Lucy Crookes was one of six runners named to the Conference USA Women's Cross Country All-Academic Team, the league office announced on Friday.
Crookes, who becomes the 11th Blazer in school history to be named to the team, owns a 4.0 grade point average in communications management.
"This is a great accomplishment and I am extremely proud of Lucy for winning this award," UAB head cross country coach Matt Esche said. "This distinction shows how dedicated Lucy is on the course and in the classroom."
On the course, Crookes served as UAB's top runner all season and finished first for the Blazers in seven straight meets dating back to last year. She turned in a 12th place finish earlier this season at the Conference USA Championship to earn a spot on the All-C-USA Second Team.
Crookes capped her Blazer career Friday morning when she placed 41st at the NCAA South Regional Championships.
The men's and women's honorary lists were selected by the league's sports information directors. The All-Academic Team consists of student-athletes that have earned a 3.2 cumulative grade point average or better and are a key member on their team.
