Crookes Leads UAB at NCAA South Regional

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Lucy Crookes finished in 41st place to lead UAB at the NCAA South Regional Championships Friday morning from the Harry Pritchett Running Park.
Crookes, who was recently named to the All-Conference USA Second Team, turned in a time of 21:28.41 to finish first for the Blazers in seven consecutive meets dating back to last season.
Rebecca Evans took second place for UAB and 75th overall with a time of 21:59.29 as the Blazers finished 25th.
“Lucy and Rebecca showed a lot of toughness today on the course,” UAB cross country head coach Matt Esche said. “They both ran extremely strong and never gave in.”
Chelsea Blaase of Tennessee captured the individual title with her time of 20:02.29 and Vanderbilt earned the team championship with 65 points and an average runner time of 20:39.43.
“Our team fought through a lot of unforeseen adversity to do a tremendous job this season,” Esche added. “I’m very proud of the strides we made as a team, and I believe we have a solid base for the upcoming track season and years to come.”
