BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The UAB cross country team will make its push for an invitation to the NCAA Championships Friday at 9 a.m. when the Blazers take part in the NCAA South Regional Championships from the Harry Pritchett Running Park in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
The 6K race features a total of 36 teams, including 10 from the state of Alabama.
Runners from the top two finishing teams will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships, while the top four individual finishers not associated with those teams will also automatically qualify.
"We are excited and privileged to have the opportunity to run at the NCAA South Regional Championships," UAB head coach Matt Esche said. "We look forward to competing against some of the nation's best, and I know that the team is ready to race one more time and show what they can do. They have looked great in workouts, and now it's time to finish on a high note."
UAB senior Lucy Crookes enters the race looking to build off a 12th place finish Oct. 31 at the Conference USA Championships. Crookes registered a time of 18:06.0 on her way to earning All-C-USA second team honors.
Rebecca Evans placed second for the Blazers and 24th overall following her time of 18:38.7, while Hannah Coffin raced to a career-best time of 19:38.5 on her way to a 57th place showing.
