UAB Set For Kutztown Bowling Invitational

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB bowling team will continue its spring season at the Kutztown Bowling Invitational in Reading, Pa. at the Hiester Lanes. The tournament will be held Friday through Sunday.
UAB (32-22) will be competing in the largest tournament in the NCAA this season. The 28-team field includes 14 teams ranked in the National Tenpin Coaches Association Poll.
The three-day tournament will begin on Friday with six five-game baker matches. Saturday will feature six traditional matches and Sunday will be the best 4-of-7 baker matches bracket style round to determine the final standings.
The Blazers are coming off an eighth-place finish at the Mid-Winter Invitational this past week. UAB was 6-7 on the weekend, with four of those wins coming against top-20 ranked teams.
Individually, freshman Amy Quick led the team with an 11th-place finish individually. She totaled a 949 on Saturday and finished with a 2,043 total pinfall to average 204.3 in 10 games.
Fellow freshman Jessica Mellott jumped into 14th from 33rd after recording a total pinfall of 1,064 on the second day. She bowled three games over 200, including a high of 227. Mellott averaged 202.50 over 10 games on the weekend.
Sophomore Madeleine McDuff took 26th with a two-day total pinfall of 1,948. She averaged 194.8 over 10 games and finished with three games over 200. Senior Ali Long placed 38th overall with a 1,773 total pinfall. She averaged 197.00 across nine games.
Friday's action will begin at 10:35 a.m. ET/9:35 a.m. CT. The event will be available through live webcast on Bowl.TV and on www.bowl.com. Lanes 17-118 and 19-20 will be broadcast on the live stream.
UAB is scheduled to appear on those lanes in the third baker match on Friday against Medaille and in the first traditional game on Saturday against St. Francis - NY.
