Practice Continues As Blazers Prep For Mississippi State

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB football team, now four days separated from a season-opening win over Troy, hit the practice fields Wednesday afternoon in preparation for Saturday's road matchup at Mississippi State. Junior quarterback Cody Clements took a minute to reflect back on the win and what it meant to the team following Wednesday's practice.
"It felt amazing," Clements said. "We've been working so hard as a team and to come out together and do everything we've been working on and execute almost to a T felt pretty good."
The Whittier, Calif. native finished 13-for-19 passing with 152 yards and two touchdowns, but it was the run game that highlighted the 38-point defeat. Clements spoke to the offensive success and how it played into the offensive game plan.
"We're going to stick with whatever they're giving us," Clements said. "If they're giving us a light box, we're going to run the ball and that means me running the ball too. So, whatever I have to do for the team and whatever the quarterback at the time has to do for the team is going to do that. If it's running, we're going to do that to the best of our abilities."
Another element to overcome in Starkville is the noise, atmosphere of an SEC venue and the Mississippi State cowbells. Clements spoke about the atmosphere and what he expects going into the game.
"It's the same way we go into any other week, its just a little more noise in the ears," Clements said. "We definitely get used to it after a day or so, but the first time you hear it, it's like `What is that.' It's the same kind of effort, same intensity."
The Blazers travel to Starkville on Saturday to face Mississippi State. Game time is set for 1 p.m. CT from the Bulldogs' Davis Wade Stadium.
