McSeveney, Pinto Win Twice In Singles Saturday

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- Donovan McSeveney won a pair of singles matches in Tuscaloosa while teammate Luiz Pinto took a pair in singles play in Atlanta to highlight the UAB men's tennis team's action Saturday.
McSeveney and teammate Christian Coetzee are representing the Blazers this weekend at the Crimson Tide Four-In-The-Fall with seven UAB players participating at the Georgia Tech Invitational.
McSeveney claimed wins in both of his consolation singles matches Saturday, defeating Drew Dawson of Notre Dame (6-4, 6-3) and Alex Day of Princeton 7-6 (3), 7-5.
Meanwhile, Coetzee fell to Srikar Alla of Rice (6-2, 7-6) before defeating Joao Gauer of Florida State (6-2, 6-4).
In Atlanta, the Blazers' Pinto downed David Durham of Kennesaw State, 7-5, 7-5, in the White Draw consolation bracket, and then defeated Zac Kennedy of Georgia State, 2-6, 6-1, 6-3.
In the Gold Draw, Mitchell Martell won a quarterfinal match over Ben Horst of Furman (6-2, 1-6, 6-1) before falling to Auburn's Oliver Plaskett, 6-2, 6-4. Christopher Egan-Morris dropped a 6-0, 6-3 decision to Jacob Behal of Furman.
In Gold consolation action, UAB's Matthew Hill outlasted Florida Gulf Coast's Sam Chaffin, 6-7, 6-4, 6-3, before falling to Georgia Tech's Elijah Melendez, 6-4, 6-0.
In the Buzz Draw, the Blazers' Oliver Poysti lost to Florida Gulf Coast's Michael Beiler, 6-0, 6-3. Trey McCombs defeated Luke Hoover of Furman (6-3, 6-4), before falling to Georgia Southern's Albert Codina Sala (7-5, 6-3).
In Buzz consolation play, Henry Paiste lot to Chinmay Handa of Georgia State, 6-2, 6-4.
