Men's Tennis Begins Fall Schedule At Southern Miss Invitational

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- The UAB men's tennis team will be in action this weekend as the Blazers play their first tournament of the fall season at the Southern Miss Invitational.
UAB will travel to Hattiesburg, Miss. and will join host Southern Miss, South Alabama and Alabama State in the four-team event. The tournament runs Friday and Saturday at the USM Tennis Courts.
The Blazers' first action will be in singles Friday morning when they face Southern Miss. At 1 p.m., UAB will take on South Alabama in singles before closing out the day at 4 p.m. with double matches against the Golden Eagles.
UAB head coach Derek Tarr is taking eight players to the event, including a pair of freshmen (Henry Paiste and Oliver Poysti) and a sophomore (Christian Egan Morris). Returning players Mitchell Martell , Donovan McSeveney and Luiz Felipe Pinto, along with Matthew Hill and Charles McCombs, are also scheduled to compete.
"We've had two weeks of practice since the guys got back and classes started," said Tarr. "This is one of the youngest teams we've had, but we're looking forward to starting the season and seeing where we are."
