Cross Country Completes 5K At Belmont Opener

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – After final results were protested for more than 24 hours in Nashville’s Friday night run in the 5K, official results were officially released from the Belmont Opener in UAB cross country’s first event of the season.
As a team the Blazers finished sixth out of the 12 teams competing, turning in a total time of 1:34:41.76, for a 5K average of 18:56.36.
Sarah Livett was the top finisher for UAB, turning in a 18:26.28 to finish 21st. She and three other Blazers ran the 5K in less than 19 minutes, as newcomer Lucy Crookes finished 26th in her first race with a 18:38.70. Kristie Leybourne finished the race in 18:38.71 to finish just behind Crookes in 27th, while Rebecca Evans crossed the line in 18:40.64 to finish 30th.
Senior Lauren Scott was the fifth UAB finisher, crossing the stripe in 20:17.43 to finish 70th. Hannah Coffin ran the 5K in 20:31.24 for a 75th place result, while Laurie Pray ran a 20:54.93 to finish 82nd.
Allison Wortel and Jenna Wesley rounded out UAB’s field of nine runners, finishing 89th and 97th respectively with times of 21:27.62 and 22:34.07.
UAB will be back in action on Sept. 12 at the South Alabama Azalea City Classic in Mobile.
