BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- A pair of former UAB football standouts have signed free agent deals with NFL teams.
Running back Darrin Reaves, the No. 3 rusher in Blazer history, has signed with the Carolina Panthers while offensive tackle Kaycee Ike is headed to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Reaves finished his UAB career with 2,337 rushing yards and 27 rushing touchdowns. He also had 77 receptions for 652 yards with three receiving scores. The 5-10, 210-pound product of Birmingham and Clay-Chalkville High School was a first-team All-Conference USA selection in 2012 as a sophomore.
Reaves will be the second former UAB player on the Panthers' spring roster. Quarterback Joe Webb signed with Carolina earlier this spring after playing with the Minnesota Vikings since he finished his Blazers' career.
Ike, a 6-5, 293-pound native of Lawrenceville, Ga., was a two-year starter for the Blazers on the offensive line. He will join another former UAB offensive lineman with the Steelers. Former Blazer Chris Hubbard finished his UAB career in 2012 before signing with Pittsburgh.
