BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- In front a crowd of former Blazer players, who were participating in Saturday's Sons of UAB Football event, the UAB football team went through its second scrimmage of spring practice at Legion Field.
The Blazers split into a white offensive unit and green defensive unit and worked out for nearly two hours on Saturday. According to head coach Bill Clark, it was the defense that made a statement during the scrimmage.
"Defensively, we understand getting off blocks, running to the ball and playing with a sense of urgency," Clark said. "I think we saw the defense come out and tackle better and they are starting to understand the importance of that urgency. I was really pleased with those guys."
Now over halfway through with spring drills, Clark said he stressed the importance of making Saturday's scrimmage more of a game-like atmosphere for his team.
"I think today was better," Clark said. "From an organizational standpoint, this was more like a game than our last scrimmage. We were kind of feeling our way through our last scrimmage, but I was pleased with our effort and intensity today. We still have to get better, but I am seeing some improvements."
The Blazers have now completed eight spring practices. UAB's spring drills will culminate with the annual spring game on Friday, April 18 at West Campus Field.
