BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- When UAB fans enter Legion Field for Saturday's Blazers' game against Louisiana Tech, there's a good chance they will see one of the football coaches' wives at the gate.
Spearheaded by head coach Bill Clark's wife, Jennifer, the Blazer wives will be collecting donations for Venecia's Foundation. The foundation, named for Venecia Butler of Piedmont, Ala., provides 100 percent of its fund-raising efforts to aid cancer patients who are undergoing chemotherapy patients.
Venecia is a four-time cancer survivor and is presently in another fight as she battles liver and bone cancer in what she has called her "toughest battle yet." Venecia was originally diagnosed in 2006.
Most of the work of the foundation to this point has been concentrated on the areas of Anniston, Gadsden and Fort McClellan, but Venecia's desire now is to expand the target areas to assist patients in Birmingham, and specifically at the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Venecia and the UAB coaches wives will be gathering contributions Saturday for patients at UAB and all proceeds will be given to the Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Gametime Saturday at Legion Field is set for 11:00 a.m.
