Hunter Mullins Named To Capital One Academic All-District Team

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- UAB senior punter Hunter Mullins has been named to the 2014 Capital One Academic All-District Football Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced on Thursday.
Having earned a spot on the All-District 4 team, Mullins will now be placed on the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
A native of Tallassee, Ala., Mullins has had an impressive senior season, averaging 44.8 yards per punt, which ranks 15th in the nation. Mullins has pinned opponents inside their own 20-yard line 16 times and has 11 punts of 50 yards or more, including a career-long 65-yard punt vs. FIU, this season.
The preseason Conference USA Special Teams Player of the Year, Mullins is UAB's career record holder in punting average at 44.23 yards. Mullins was a first-team All-Conference USA selection last season.
Mullins has been named to the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll three times.
To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve appearing in at least 50 percent of their team's games, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher on a scale of 4.00, and have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his current institution.
UAB plays host to Louisiana Tech on Saturday (11 a.m.) in a key Conference USA contest.
