Blazers Win Five Singles Matches Friday At ITA Regionals

AUBURN, Ala. ---- The UAB men's tennis dropped a pair of doubles matches but came back to win five of six matches in consolation round singles play Friday at the ITA Southern Regional Championships.
Luiz Felipe Pinto won twice in singles as the Blazer junior outlasted Jackson State's Camilo Patino, 6-7, 7-6, 6-4, before beating Lukas Clemens of Nicholls State, 6-2, 7-6.
Christian Coetzee was a 6-4, 6-1 winner over Rui Silva of New Orleans and Donovan McSeveney downed Jacksonville State's Gabriel Pansera, 6-1, 6-0.
Mitchell Martell advanced with a walk-over past Dylan Gee of Jacksonville State but fell in his next match to Mikhal Esipov of Southern Miss, 6-2, 1-6, 6-1.
In doubles play, Martell and Pinto lost to the South Alabama duo of Daniel Leitner and Gerhard Gruindelingh, 8-6. UAB's team of Coetzee and McSeveney fell to Southern Miss' Chao-Yu Huang and Wen-Po Tseng, 8-3.
