Men's Tennis Wraps Up First Day At ITA Regionals

AUBURN, Ala. ---- The UAB men's tennis team picked up a pair of singles wins and a doubles victory Thursday on the opening day of the ITA Southern Regional Championships.
UAB's Donovan McSeveney and Christian Coetzee won opening round matches in singles. McSeveney downed Tarun Surat of Southern Miss, 6-3, 6-1, while Coetzee defeated Timo Krana of New Orleans, 1-6, 6-4, 6-3.
The Blazers' Luiz Felipe Pinto fell in his first round singles match, dropping a 6-1 6-1 decision to Gabriel Sciacca Dias of Troy, 6-1, 6-1. Mitchell Martell rounded out the UAB singles action as he fell to Marko Krickovic of Auburn, 6-2, 6-3
McSeveney came back later in the day in Round of 64 singles and dropped a 6-4, 6-4 match to Juan Cruz Estenarena of Mississippi State. Meanwhile Coetzee fell by a 6-4, 6-2 score to Jacksonville State's Jefferson Wendler-Filho, 6-4, 6-2.
In doubles play, UAB's team of Martell and Pinto were winners in first round action over the Jackson State team of Geria and Gonktsaris, 8-0.
