Men's Tennis Team Set For ITA Southern Regionals

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- The UAB men's tennis team will send four players to the ITA Southern Regional Championships this weekend at Auburn, Ala. The tournament runs Thursday through Monday at the Yarbrough Tennis Center.
The Blazers' four competitors will be Christian Coetzee, Mitchell Martell, Donovan McSeveney and Luiz Felipe Pinto.
Joining the Blazers in the field are host Auburn, Alabama, Jackson State, Jacksonville State, Louisiana-Lafayette, LSU, Mississippi State, New Orleans, Nicholls State, Ole Miss, Samford, South Alabama, Southern Miss, Troy and Tulane.
Play gets underway Thursday as all four Blazers will play singles matches. One of their two doubles teams will be on the courts as well.
In singles, Martell will play Auburn's Marko Krickovic in an 11:30 a.m. match with McSeveney going against Tarun Surat of Southern Miss at 1 p.m. Coetzee takes on Timo Kranze at 1:30 while Pinto plays against Gabriel Sciacca Dias of Troy at 2 p.m.
In doubles, the UAB tandem of Martell and Pinto meet the Jackson State duo of Geria and Gonktsaris. The Blazers' Coetzee and McSveney have a first round bye before playing their first match of the tournament on Friday.
