Helliar, Rondino Compete At ITA All-American

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- UAB senior tennis players Chris Helliar and Rafael Rondino are in Tulsa, Okla. this weekend to participate in the ITA All-American Championships.
Helliar and Rondino will open singles play Saturday in the pre-qualifying portion of the ITA All-American at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center on the University of Tulsa campus.
Pre-qualifying matches are set to begin Saturday with qualifying matches following on Sept. 30. A field of 64 singles players and 32 doubles teams will then compete in the main draw on Oct. 3.
Singles quarterfinalists, doubles finalists and consolation champions will receive an automatic entry into the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships on Nov. 7-10, held at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, NY.
Helliar, who went 6-0 two weeks ago en route to winning the singles title in the "B" Division at the Southern Intercollegiate Championships in Athens, Ga., will play his first match Saturday at 10 a.m. CT when he takes on Caison Best of Army.
Rondino, who transferred to UAB from Auburn prior to the 2012-13 season, will meet Clemson's Robert Dudley in his opening round match Saturday at Noon CT.
