Men's Tennis Takes Down No. 75 Georgia State

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- The UAB men's tennis team won the doubles point and then claimed victories in three singles matches to capture an impressive 4-2 win over No. 75 Georgia State Wednesday afternoon at the George Ward Tennis Center.
The Blazers (12-7) have now won 10 of their last 11 matches.
Rafael Rondino provided the clinching fourth point Tuesday against the Panthers (8-7) as he defeated Thomas Cook at the No. 3 singles position.
Senior David Zimmerman continued his recent play as he downed GSU's Victor Valente, the nation's No. 67-ranked player, 6-3, 6-3, at the No. 1 position. Zimmerman is now 13-5 in singles in duals and has won 11 consecutive matches.
UAB's other singles win came from freshman Luiz Felipe Pinto who defeated Paul Schuette at No. 5, 6-1, 7-5.
The Blazers grabbed a 1-0 lead by winning the doubles point, taking wins at No. 2 and 3. The match at No. 1 was halted with UAB (Zimmerman and Tom Puetz) leading No. 28-ranked Lucas Santa Ana and Valente, 6-4.
Lucas Dirube and Chris Helliar were 8-4 winner at No. 2 over Thomas Cook and Robert Schulze while Pinto and Rondino won by the same score at No. 3 over Sofiane Chevallier and Schuette.
