Men's Tennis Heads To USTA/ITA Regionals

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- The UAB men's tennis team will take a contingent of six players in Tuscaloosa this weekend to participate in the USTA/ITA Southern Regional Championships.
The tournament will begin Thursday, Oct. 10 and run through Monday, Oct. 14. The Blazers will be represented by seniors Chris Helliar and Rafael Rondino, along with Luiz Felipe Pinto, Lucas Dirube, Donovan McSeveney and Nick Ianuzzi.
Helliar and Rondino have been the busiest and most successful Blazers thus far this fall. Both advanced from the pre-qualifying draw at the recent ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla. to the qualifying bracket. Helliar will head to Tuscaloosa with a 12-1 singles record this fall, having also captured a title at the Southern Intercollegiate Championships in Athens, Ga. last month.
The first UAB players on the courts for singles Thursday will be Dirube, Pinto and Ianuzzi. Helliar and McSeveney, as well as Rondino and Dirube, will be in action in doubles. All three singles matches and both UAB doubles matches are scheduled for 8:30 a.m. starts.
