Helliar Earns C-USA Tennis Athlete Of The Month

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- UAB's Chris Helliar has been named the Conference USA Men's Tennis Athlete of the Month after his outstanding performance during the month of September.
Helliar, a senior from Bournemouth, England, went 11-0 during the month, captured a singles title at the Southern Intercollegiate Championships in Athens, Ga. and has reeled off an impressive string of singles victories at the ITA All-American Championships since last Friday.
Helliar's most impressive win in the month was a 6-4, 6-4 victory Monday over No. 58-ranked Eric Johnson of USC in Monday's first Qualifying round of the ITA All-American.
Helliar also had a solid showing in doubles in September as he teamed with Rafael Rondino to go 2-1 at the Southern Intercollegiates and then advanced to the second round of the ITA All-American qualifying draw earlier this week.
